1) How many books do you own?

Several thousand. This is NOT an exaggeration.

2) What was the last book you bought?

I believe it was... oh yes, Me Talk Pretty One Day, by David Sedaris.

3) What was the last book you read?

The last book I finished was the above-mentioned Me Talk Pretty One Day, and right now I'm almost done with a third-or-so reading of Tatooine Ghost. I need to go to a bookstore before I leave here. :P

4) Name five books that mean a lot to you:

The Descent, by Jeff Long - I really don't know why I have such a visceral reaction to this book. Sure, it's well-written. Sure, the idea behind it is amazing and chilling and just enough on this side of believable to be truly frightening... But as for why I've read it at least fifteen times, why I pimp it to every single person... I couldn't say.

Sickened, by Julie Gregory - Such an unbelievable, disgusting, riveting... true story. It makes me realize that there are people more fucked up than my family out there, as horrible as that thought it - and it makes me consider my own strength. That "If she can survive through what she had to deal with, I can too." Also, Julie's story isn't one of pure healthy removal of herself from her mother's grasp - she isn't a perfect heroine. She suffers because of her experiences, and her healing is not easy - nor is it complete. She does not ask for pity, but she does not fool anyone into thinking hers is a story of triumph. She makes it okay to feel hurt, as long as you pick yourself up and leave your house of mirrors eventually.

Dead Men Do Tell Tales, by William Maples - One of my first forensics casebooks. Dr. Maples makes the often tedious field of forensic anthropology interesting. From cataloging bones in a basement of a university's anthropology building, to identifying the remains of the Rominov family, Dr. Maples mixes clinical information with interesting anecdotes in order to make forensic anthropology a... well... more interesting than it really is. ;)

The Last Command - First SW book I ever read. 'Nuff said.

On Writing, by Stephen King - Somehow or other, this book got me to pick up a pen for the first time in two years. I like Stephen King anyway, and this book was... well, it was Stephen King, but it was brutally honest and incredibly inspiring.
