Ponderings
Mar. 31st, 2005 03:21 pmI know I don't talk a lot about my personal politics on here (beyond that I'm an adament anti-Bush/pro-gay rights person), but the Terri Schiavo thing has got me to thinking...
If I were in a persistant vegetative state, I wouldn't want to stay like that. Who really would, when you think about it? To not be able to communicate, to function, and without any chance of recovery... what kind of life is that? It isn't one, beyond the very clinical definition of the term 'life'. And I certainly wouldn't want to be paraded in front of tv cameras and used as a political tool.
I know people will try using the slippery slope "well, now that they've set a precedent with this, they'll want to cut off life support on all coma patients." Well, there's a huge difference between a recoverable coma and a persistant vegetative state - particularly a vegetative state that's gone on for many years.
All I'm saying is that Ms. Schiavo should be allowed to go in peace, without this craziness surrounding her.
End the punditry, the media circus, the fighting. Just let the woman die.
Everyone's got to do it sometime, right?
