The trail ride kicked ass. It was raining, but we went anyway. I was the only person in the group, and the person doing the ride was about my age, so we just chatted and chilled on the horses for about an hour and a half while we did the trail. The trail was nifty - lots and lots of old, old building foundations and stone walls and such.
My horse was a quarterhorse named Rascal - very sweet-tempered, and very tolerant of my fumbling attempts to remember to keep my heels down. I ended up barely holding the reigns most of the time - just a nudge here and there, and every so often pulling back to keep him from getting too far ahead.
I like riding western better than english. I don't know why, really. When I rode English, it was very... ritualized, very "proper", and that wasn't my cup of tea. Western, or at least the way I've been riding Western (which is probably all wrong, but unless the riding lesson fairy comes to my house, it's not going to be fixed any time soon), is a lot more casual, and I feel like I have more contact with the horse. *shrug* Whatever.
In any case, I scheduled another ride for next month. I hope to make this a regular thing. Not only do I love the riding itself, but it's a fairly long drive to get there - which is something I also love doing, so it's all good!
