There comes a time in every young girls' life - a special time, filled with excitement and questions and an odd tingly feeling DOWN THERE. That time is CLOWN WRAS DAY. That special day when the first wave of Clown Wras merchandise is released and that young girl can skip down the aisles of Wal-Mart with her girlfriend, squeeing happily over the TWO DIFFERENT super-gay Obi-Wan-in-armor figures, bemoaning the Lack-of-Ahsoka figures, and generally acting a fool. It is also the day that girl's wonderful, understanding, patient girlfriend buys her the Clown Wras novelization.
I've read about half of it. I... am not sure how I feel about it yet, suffice it to say I'm NOT the biggest fan of Karen Traviss' characterization of Anakin. As I don't really know how he and Ahsoka interact in the movie itself, I can't tell if it's Traviss making him out to be a huge dickface or if that's how he is in the movie. Be that as it may, Anakin is a huge dickface, is aware he's being a huge dickface, but does not stop being a dickface. He also comes across as somewhat mentally ill, which, well, it's Anakin, but it's sort of "oh, wow, Haldol much?" even for him. The overwhelming word for the characterization of Anakin is: EMO. Again, it is Anakin, but again, the emo factor is a little high, even for him. I like emo!Anakin (see
winduwatchers, but it works much better when he's a Padawan, or when it's written by Stover. For some reason, it comes across in this book as though Traviss read some stuff off ff.net and figured that was enough to introduce her to the characters. It's jarring and grating, and does not make Anakin into any kind of sympathetic character.
Other than that, the plot is pretty interesting, and I actually find myself liking Captain Rex (liking him more than Anakin, which is... saying something) and the other clones. Obi-Wan has so far been underutilized, but I'm sure that will change. Ahsoka... is adorable. I like her, and I feel bad for her. Her master's got ISS-UES.
Also, Rotta the Huttlet?
Best.
Character.
Ever.
