There was a barber and his wife....

drunken_hawkeye and I saw Sweeney Todd last night. I was very pleasantly surprised. I'd had pretty high expectations for it, since it's... well... Sweeney Todd, and it's gotten good reviews. They cut out all the boring parts, leaving it at about 2 hours instead of the play's 3. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter, despite not being the best singers on the face of the earth, were still more than capable of handling the complicated lyrics and melodies required from a Sondheim production. The set pieces were very cool - reminded me a little of Moulin Rouge, to be honest - and while Tim Burton certainly has a very stylized approach to things, for Sweeney, it works.
Overall, an excellent movie. It made me happy. :)
